Oil painter

Abstracted and representational landscapes. Responses to music. Musical rhythms in landscape. Explorations of grief. Oil, watercolour and pastel.

I work mainly with oil on canvas and living in East Anglia, landscape with sky is a favourite subject.

This year I have been exploring colour, rhythm and texture in landscape, mainly in oils, using brush and palette knife. Following the recent death of my mother, I have been reflecting on the emotions associated with grief. Dance is a metaphor for life for me and I have been reflecting on it using dancing figures in conte drawn into wet watercolour. Music has been another area of interest and I have been exploring the colour and feel of Tallis and Byrd. The musical patterns and rhythms of trees, land, foliage and light have been an added stimulus. The Backs in Cambridge is a perennial subject.

My paintings are usually developed from sketches and colour notes but occasionally I paint on site. My learning was initially through evening classes and courses then a course with the Open College of the Arts.

I have been exhibiting with Cambridge Open Studios since 2004 and I have work for sale in the Octagon Gallery in Wisbech.
