Innovative Forms at The Lettering Arts Trust Snape Maltings

Designing Batik Scarves inspired by the lettering and sculptures of Jon Skelton (MBE)

In June 2019, I was contacted by Helen Mary Skelton, who invited me to be one of the supporting artists for the upcoming exhibition that she was organizing with the Lettering Arts Centre at Snape maltings in Suffolk, having come across my work at The Coach House Gallery in Guernsey.

The exhibition was to be a celebration of her father, John Skelton's innovative approach the alphabet and to show the development of his work through his drawings, carved lettering and sculptures.

It was an honour to be asked to be involved in this project and John's work provided an endless source of inspiration for batik ideas and the collaboration resulted in 6 new designs for Batik scarves, which varied from work incorporating John Skelton's lettering designs, such as 'Cascading Alphabet' to a scarf depicting figures in yoga poses after some of his sculptures.

It was a wonderful project to be involved in and my thanks go to Helen Mary Skelton and The Lettering Arts Trust for organizing this very special event!
