Surviving and thriving as an artist or freelance creative,
I received this request via former COS member Louise Thomas, who is now in Reading.
"As part of our Creative and Culture themed week here at the University of Reading we are running the following event on campus and would be delighted if someone from your team were able/interested in attending.
Surviving and thriving as an artist or freelance creative, Thursday 5th March 12:00-13:30
We aim to have 5-6 speakers at the event who have careers in this industry.
The audience consists of undergraduate students from digital design, typography, humanities, computer science, English literature, fine art and consumer behavior and marketing. We’re trying to promote the industry to a wide range of young people from diverse backgrounds.
The format of this event will be short introductions from each panel member (around 10 mins) followed by a whole-panel Q&A chaired by a member of the Careers team or one of our academics. There will also be some time at the end for free networking. In your introduction if would be great if you could say a little about your current work, your career path so far, what a typical day or week looks like, favourite parts of your work and least favourite/biggest challenges. You’re welcome to bring a few PowerPoint slides/other online presentation but this it completely optional. If possible, it would also be great if you could share some examples of your work.
We’d be delighted to have you attend this event and we are able to cover reasonable travel expenses.
Please don’t hesitate to contact me if you need any further information or have any questions.
