An Introduction to Wheel-Throwing Porcelain with Jo Davies
Date: Monday, March 11, 2019 Duration: 9am - 5pm
Venue : Kiln Cambridge (61 Ditton Walk, Cambridge)
Level : For intermediate and advanced level students who are curious about porcelain and may or may not have tried it before.
This day long workshop will take students through the basics of working with porcelain and what is needed to create successful work using it. Porcelain has a reputation for being beautiful, translucent and a little tricky to work with. However, this is only the case if a maker is uncertain of the best way to handle the clay and through greater knowledge of its idiosyncrasies we can easily learn how to use it. Many of the issues of working with porcelain are also the pitfalls of working with other clays but porcelain has a greater tendency towards those fault lines - cracking, warping, etc. are problems that come up with all clays and, in learning about how to counteract them in porcelain.
