Paula Armstrong
Tapestry weaving, Mixed Media Textiles, textile art
Mainly tapestry weaving, braiding, and other mixed media textiles. Small and miniature wall hangings, and some fashion accessories and wearable art.

My tapestry weaving draws on two main areas of continuing interest:  the detailed structure of plants, especially trees; and the constructed textile techniques of ancient non-European cultures which can be assimilated into tapestry weaving. These latter, incorporated into my weaving provide the background for a strong tactile element to my work.  For me it is the ideal medium for fusing colour, texture and form into a well-crafted art object. Colour is sympathetic to the subject matter rather than a literal representation of it. My weaving is also informed by extensive practice in needlepoint and professional ecclesiastical embroidery.
