July Open Studios
After graduating from Birmingham School of Art in the summer of 1986 with a BA (Hons) degree in Fashion and Textiles, I moved to London and worked for a textile design studio creating hand drawn ideas, patterns and colour-ways for their seasonal collection. The portfolio travelled worldwide attracting retailers, fashion houses and fabric manufacturers.
I have lived in Cambridge since 1996. Creating my own style as a painter was very difficult at first because as an in-house designer, I had always worked with briefs, so the technique was constantly changing, adapting and refreshing itself. The inspiration finally came while looking back at my old college sketch books where the main creative media used was the graphite pencil and acrylic paints. By mixing these two mediums I found a unique style using flowers as the dominant theme.
