Painting mainly in oils, landscapes towards the abstract and still lives.
  • Visitors All Year

I enjoy painting in oils, still lives often of familiar and loved objects, and giving them a second life.

Landscapes too, which I first sketch, often several times, then paint in the studio. In this way I can choose my own palette and therefore the mood and character of the painting.

My aim is to capture the essence of the scene that I have found visually exciting.  The composition, structure,  markmaking, modulated shades of colour and tone and only an occasional area of detail are what I need.  I find omitting detail makes the work far stronger.

Colour, form and brushmarks are of prime importance to me.
