I was born and brought up in Kolkata (previously Calcutta) where I had my initial training at a private Art Academy. Batik is the challenge of an unpredictable medium. Controlling the dyes with the wax resist leads to the fluidity of lines. The vibrant colours and textures peculiar to my personal approach to batik leads to new discoveries of expression. Large padded silk hangings and pieces of batik fabric mounted on textured paper depict abstract forms, landscapes and impressions from travel and music. Painting with diluted and undiluted household bleach on previously inked watercolour paper leads to the constant discovery of an exciting range of tonal effects and textures. I have shown my work on television, exhibited widely both in this country and abroad, in Paris, Dubai, Japan and India. My work hangs in the British Council in Kolkata, The Nehru Centre, (Indian High Commission,Chelsea, The Brunei Gallery London), and Clare Hall, New Hall and Trinity Hall colleges in Cambridge.
