Oil paintings of local wetlands, sea and sky

Many of my paintings focus on Sutton Gault where I walk each day with Charlie the dog. During the winter months it can change daily from bright and fresh to deep, dark and mysterious. It's these changes of mood that catch my eye, draw me in and leave me impatient to paint. I also paint from my yearly visits to Holy Island, Northumberland.

I work in oils on board using cardboard, brushes and knives to achieve the layering and texture which interests me. I also work in gouache on heavy paper textured with gesso. This allows me to build up an interesting, multi-layered surface from the initial plein-air sketch to explore further in the studio.
