July Open Studios
I am an oil painter living in the Fens where I draw inspiration from my surroundings whether that is people, landscape, city or general life around me here and on my travels. I use brush and palette knife and work mainly on canvas although some of my new work this year includes some wood panel abstracts using acrylics, contemplative in nature.
The colourful and explorative landscapes are mainly based on my travels. Working in oils and cold wax I attempt to capture memories of intensity and surprise that store in my memory. I enjoy exploring edges of reality and abstraction in my landscapes. By letting go of some of the detail or the specific, I am striving to create a more universal sense of the place and what it may invoke.
I have become increasingly interested in painting the human face, a never ending challenge of light, planes, contours, of capturing mood and character, and where possible exploring the interconnectedness of person and place.
I exhibit regularly and am a member of Cambridge Drawing Society and OuseLife.
